Sale Freaks

Ok, i admit. I think we ARE sale freaks! By we here i mean me and my husband. Well, he's not particularly a sale freak person. But for sure his beloved wife (that's me) IS.
Some latest sale we went to:
- John Little Mega Sale
- Watson Mega Sale
- Charles & Keith warehouse sale
- The Bodyshop warehouse sale
- PC Show
- Aussino
- IKEA annual clearance sale
- National Library Books Sale
- and the the most recent one was Takashimaya Craziest Toys Sale.

Toys sale, omg. We don't have any children yet, but there we were carrying home a S$29.90 worth radio controlled helicopter!!! It's Ridha's of course. He's been wanting that thing for over a year, and he finally got one. On sale price! We believe the usual price is S$89.90. So it's really worth it.
And me? Well, i'm satisfied enough with a simple 100 pieces puzzle. S$1.00 only.

Coming up:
- this weekend, Watson Mega Expo Sale. Have eyes on: a backpack like the one we bought on the last Watson Mega Expo Sale. It's for my brother in law.
- end of august, COMEX 2008. Have eyes on: Microsoft Office 2007.

Thank God now i work full time. So i have limited time to go to any sale in town: weekend only, when i'm not working.

P.S: Now, Ridha is planning to buy a smaller version of the helicopter he bought last weekend, the Fire Fox RC Helicopter from Speedtech. It's at the same price as the bigger one, S$29.90. "The big one can not be played inside the house", he said.
OK, go for it, hon!

And, oh! Now he has his eyes on this RC kite!

National Library Booksale Frenzy

18-20 July 2008 was the long awaited National Library Booksale in Singapore. I have marked my calendar since a month before for this annual event. This year was my second time joining the book-lovers-crowd in a hunt for S$2-each-quality-books.

The book-lovers crowd

Without hesitation, I went there three days in a row. Other than being a sale freak, I had my reason for that.
Day 1: Hey, it was the first day, of course I did not want to miss it.
Day 2: Saturday. It was my hubby's turn. For sure his office would not grant him a day leave just so he could feed his crave for book sale. In that case, day 2 was pretty much his day 1. And I, voluntarily joined him.
Day 3: Okay, what could be a good reason for day 3? Fortunately, my sister and his friends came all the way from Batam only for this book sale event. As good hostes, my hubby and I accompanied them there.

... and on each day, i took home some books. In three days we bought a total of 36 books for only S$70.00! Yayy!!
Day 1: 15 books
Day 2: 11 books
Day 3: 10 books

We thought that it would be such a waste to miss the opportunity to buy good books in such a low price. All books were S$2.00 each. Some books in Chinese/Malay/Tamil were even only S$1.00. Magazines were sold in a bundle of 10 magazines for the price S$5.00/bundle.
Crazy price.

Now you know why I did not want to miss it.

Novel mania, do not worry. There were plenty of novels in any genre.
Children books were also overabundant. You can even leave your children in a corner with a pile of children books without worrying that they would cry over missing parents.

I give you some tips for shopping in this booksale event.

1. Bring your own trolley or even a luggage to carry your purchased books (your baby stroller would also do). Trust me, you'll need it. And don't worry about looking not cool with the trolley/luggage. Many people are doing the same thing. At the end of the day, you'll thank yourself for willing not to look cool with the trolley/luggage.
Bring your own trolly or risk having a back ache after carrying those heavy books.

2. When you find this-is-probably-a-good book, do not think to much. Just take it first. You can sort out later and decide whether you're buying it or not.
To buy or not to buy :P

That's me sorting out some books. See my trolley in front of me.

3. Be sure to check on other people's book-rejects. They're usually specific in one certain field. For example, a person who is interested in photography will collect as many photography books as he can. So if you're interested in photography as well, all you have to do is just sort out the book you want from his rejects.

4. Sometime your friend would ask you to find him a certain-titled book. For this event, do not accept that kind of request. Chances are slim for you to find it; you would probably get a headache instead.

5. Do not envy for other people's books. The books you get depend on your own luck. :P So keep hunting!
Keep hunting!

6. For those of you who bring your children (maybe aged 4 and above) along, please do this before hunting for books. First, take your children to the DJ table and then teach them to tell the DJ that they're looking for their parent. Make sure your children know your full name so that the DJ then can announce it over his microphone. Make that DJ table as your meeting point just in case you were separated from your children, or vice versa.

Here are some books we took home from the event.
Some marketing, finance, and engineering books

Hobby: Mountaineering, Canoeing, Cooking

Photography related books

Miscellaneous category books

So, everyone, mark your calendar for the next year National Library Booksale. ^_^

Enjoy more photos here.

Ah yes! I just found out that there was this buy-one-get-one-free policy on the last day after 6pm. It means the S$2.00 books became S$1.00 each, and the S$1.00 books became S$0.50 each. That way, one could just do the payment after 6pm to get a cheaper price. Hahah!

Singaporean in me?

Why do i sense chill down my spine whenever I hear Singapore's National Anthem, Majulah Singapura?

No, I'm not Singaporean, if you asked. I'm Indonesian.

I have to be reminded again to Indonesia's National Anthem, Indonesia Raya.
Quick, someone send me the MP3 file!

Lost with lost

Monday night is sleep late night.

Two of our favorite TV shows are on every Monday night.
Prison Break (season 3) and Lost (season 4).

About Lost.
I'm lost every time I watch it. So lost that I'm starting to believe that the scriptwriters are playing us with the series. I have this idea that maybe, they just write whatever they feel like to, without a certain plot, or even without any relevancy to the previous story. But nevertheless, I would not want to miss any episode of it. It's like I'm addicted to be lost with Lost.

So, every Monday night, we sleep late... and lost.

Me want burger

For the last one week i had this acute craving for junk food, especially fried chicken and burger. Every time, i mean really every time i saw KFC or BK commercial on TV as well as on printed media, i went like, "ooohh... i want that... i reeeaalllyy want that...(drooling)".

So, finally, yesterday, i told Ridha: "Honey, i haven't cook anything for dinner yet. And i will not cook. We're going to KFC tonight!"

That night, since we have decided to have KFC as our dinner, two options were on our minds. Harbourfront center or IMM building. We choose IMM building because i wanted to go to Daiso and shopping for our groceries at Giant. I know VivoCity also has Daiso and Giant, but the crowd on weekend time is just too tiring. Plus, we could just hop on the IMM shuttle bus service right in front of our block. Free of charge. On the way, we discussed about what to eat. Ridha would have two pieces chicken set meal and i would have the colonel burger set meal (that way i could get both fried chicken and the burger in one go).

When we got to IMM building,
Ridha (R): "Where's KFC?"
Me (M): "I remember it's over there, in front of Subway near Secret Recipe."

... we were there...

R: "It's not here".
M: "Let's look for the floor plan and see where it's located".
R: "And where's the floor plan?"
M: "That... i don't know". :P

... by this time we already back to the main lobby....
... and then we went half lap of the first floor. We've found McDonald and Burger King. But no sign of KFC....and the floor plan...

R: "Ooh.. i know where it is. It's on the other side. Follow me".

... by this time, i wanted to argue. I was soooo sure that he meant the exact same location as the first one. The one in front of Subway, near Secret Recipe. But, i just followed him. No point arguing since he would insist to check on 'his location' of KFC...

R: "Errr... it's not here also..."
M: "Honey, we were here the first time. You see, that's Subway, and that's Secret Recipe...but we were coming from the opposite direction".
R: "Huh?"
M: "OK, i think we've made mistake. There's no KFC here. Let's just have BK. It's almost 9 and i'm hungry."

There goes my fried chicken and colonel burger.

We had BK Chicken Burger and BK Whooper instead.

And we've learned our lesson: There's no KFC in IMM building!
...or, is there? Did we miss it?

And now... i want to eat pizza!

To write or not to write

My inspiration of what to write for my blog sometime comes in a weird way on a perfectly wrong time. Maybe that's why it is called inspiration. As for the wrong timing, for example, often it comes at night after I'm set in bed when I have closed my eyes trying to sleep. BAM! It comes, and ruins my sleepiness. It will take about two hours later (if i'm lucky) before i can finally sleep, after struggling to completely forget about that inspiration.
The next morning, i can still remember a little bit about it. But, the mood to write is just not there anymore.

Why don't I blog it right away, you asked?

Because Ridha would veto the idea of me turning my laptop back on just to blog.

Why don't I just write it down on a piece of paper first, you asked?

Because, I've lost my ability to write if it's not on a keyboard of a computer. Weird, huh? But it happens. A couple of times I tried to blog by writing it on a piece of paper first. Well, it fails every time. I can't even finish a single sentence. It seems like all the words are hiding away from my pen.
Scary!

Does this happen to you too? I mean, the disability to write if it's not on a computer?

P.S: Anybody cares to buy me Asus EEE PC ? Or, an iPhone, maybe?

Why Mulan Jameela?

What's with 'ya iya lah ya iya dong mulan jameela mulan bla bla bla'?

In only the last one hour i came across this 'phrase' twice.

First, i was chitchating with a friend on YM. He said:

"ya iyalah di jkt, masa ya iya donk di jkt. kan mulan jameela, masa mulan jameedonk"

And second, i was blogwalking and stumble upon this blog. And he (I assume it belongs to a male blogger) said in one of his post:
"Ya iyalaah…..masak ya iya dunk, ya iyalah Mulan Jameelah, masak Mulan Jajiggong!!!"

OK, is this some kind of new 'bahasa gaul' nowadays?
But why Mulan Jameela?

Forbidden Kingdom... oh gosh...

If you spend your breakfast time around your TV and have you eyes glued to the Primetime Morning on Channel News Asia, then you must know a segment called Zoom In. It's a segment about the latest movie reviews. You cannot forget it's presenter, Melanie Oliveiro with that monotonous voice of her and the popcorn-based-rating she gives to every movie she reviewed.

After having our daily dose of prime time morning for about five months now, Ridha and I agree upon one thing. The movie review lady does not give away her popcorns so easily. Often, the movies being reviewed got around two or three popcorns (on the scale of five as the highest). We started to believe that there is never a good enough movie to get five popcorns from her. As far as i know, the most popcorn she gave lately is four, to the movie Kung Fu Panda (and yes, that movie is a good one, i would have given out five popcorns if i were her).

This Zoom In segment has now become our morning games. Ridha and I will take a guess of how many popcorn the movie will get from her.

I remember when she reviewed the movie Forbidden Kingdom. Her review said that the movie was very disappointing. So we guessed she would give like two popcorns. And to our dismay, she gave out ONE popcorn. It means 'Don't bother', if I am not mistaken.
"What...? That movie has Jackie Chan and Jet Li in it. One popcorn? Come on... is she serious? Is it really that bad?"

Since then, we were set to watch Forbidden Kingdom. We didn't know when or where, but we would watch it. It's sort of like a reverse psychology, you know. You say something and expect the result in the other way around. :P

Finally, we watched Forbidden Kingdom last night. Yeaah, i know it's bit too late for that, but...hey, who cares :D. And guess what... that movie IS sucks. Sucks to the bone... haha..! I guess I was expecting too much from Jet Li and Jackie Chan in that movie. They're way too big for the movie. There was nothing much going on with the kung fu either. Nothing made me go "wow, that's cool!"

And that night, for the first time we praised Melanie Oliveiro for giving away only one popcorn for this movie.

P.S: I always wonder how many popcorns did The Lord of The Ring trilogy get from her.

I was browsing through my own blog here in diniblogs. I almost forgot that i have a wishlist. Is it still counted as wishlist if you already forgot about it?

Well, let's see.

    Meet The Wiermans

Oh no... i forgot to call mom tonight. I promised to call home last night. But since i forgot, i planned to do it tonight. Hell, i forgot again. Maybe my age has been eating my memory bit by bit, or maybe i've used up all of my memory in my brain... sigh.
Anyway, it's to late now, and American Idol is on. My mom is probably asleep.

But i miss her, i miss my pap, my sisters, and my brothers.
    I miss home.

Just before i came back to Singapore, we -my whole family- had the opportunity to take a family picture. It was around the Idul Adha holiday. This time we really meant it. My mom had been asking me to arrange the time when every family member have a free time to go to the photo studio. It was hard to arrange something like that. First of all, one of my sister is living so far out of the province since she got this good job at Batam, so we had to wait until she was on vacation in Bandung. Secondly, our schedule, of course. Every person has his/her own schedule. Even when I tried to reserve their time, it turned out that 'family picture' was not really as important as their other schedules. Someone eventually just can't make it.

    I had to change strategy.
This time no early plan for going to the photo studio. One morning, i think it was Friday, i just told them that we're going to take family picture tomorrow, on saturday night. So i wanted everybody to be prepared and be in the photo studio by 7pm. I didn't even ask whether they can make it or not. I just assumed that everybody was free on saturday night, and even if they weren't i would just tell them to cancel whatever their schedule was for the night.

    It worked.

And so, we finally had our very own family picture, a complete formation.

Let me tell you a little bit about them.

My mom, is a super mom. She's a very good cook... well, every mother is the best cook to their children. But, really, my mom really can cook, very well indeed. Everyone who ever tried her cook will acknowledge it. One more thing, she's a good saleswoman, or should i say she's a good marketer...? You can give her anything and she can turn it to money. Maybe it's her talent, it's in her blood. People say Padang-ians are the best seller.

My pap, is the most patient person i've ever known. Too patient sometimes it irritates my mom... haha. He's very kind, a little too kind sometimes. He took an early retirement from the company he used to work for, and he's running his own business right now. To me, he's the best father a child could ever hoped for.

My first sister, is the most calm among us, the children. She doesn't talk much. She has this 'nrimo' kind of attitude, which made my father worried for her so much when she went to Batam for the first time. He worried that people would take advantage of her. But she proves everybody wrong. Although she doesn't talk much, she thinks everything thoroughly. I learned that she's actually the most mature among us.

My second sister, is... what can i say... i usually miss her the most. She's very talkative and she brings joy to everyone around her. She's the family clown, i may say... in a good meaning. Whenever i feel sad about something, i will just call her and she can definitely make my day. Even her sms can make me laugh and forget whatever is burdening my mind. Since i'm away from home, and my first sister also works far away from home, she has become the first child of the family. She takes care lots of things at home. She's very reliable.

My brother, is a naruto freak. Well, he follows after his two sisters about this. He collects naruto character-keychains and he really wants to have every single character that is in the anime. He used to be very chubby. But now his a very tall handsome young man, not chubby anymore. Until around his secondary school years, i used to ask for a kiss on the cheek from him. And he would voluntarily give me one. But after that, i stopped asking for it...^_^ I love him so much.

That's a glimpse about my family.
    I miss them so much.

Well, the american idol is finished now. MR is already asleep. I have to go to bed too before he pops his head out of the bedroom with a frown on his face telling me to go to sleep, right away.

Bugs Life #3 - Lady Bug

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It's been a while since i post pictures for my photoblog. Remember when i told you that I lost all the data in my 40GB HDD? Well, i kind of lost interest in photoblogging since. But, hey, thank God i got them all back now. A friend of mine did quite a wonderful job recovering my data, eventhough i had to lose my 40GB storage. It's useless now. But it's nothing compare to my data.
    So, enjoy the ladybug..!

    UDD and SDD

    This is interesting to me.

Elevators in some HDB complex here in Singapore are equipped with a UDD, Urine Detection Device. There is a sign inside the elevator saying so although you cannot see what the device looks like. Even so, there is a picture of camera on the sign. It makes me wonder whether the device is actually a camera? Or is it some kind of a device which detect the chemical compound of urine?

Whatever the device looks like, it's there to scare people not to urinate in an elevator. That means, there were people who used to urinate in an elevator, or maybe they still do? (I just can't imagine who would do such thing).

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingAnyway, I think there is just one more thing that an elevator in Singapore need to be equipped with. An SDD, Saliva Detection Device. Why? Because i used to find saliva on the floor of an elevator. Sometimes I even see a person spitting in an elevator. He/she does that 'kak phui' thing without feeling guilt. Why can't they hold it for a while and do it after they get off the elevator?

Eeeww, i really hate to see saliva on the floor of an elevator.

N.B: Kok postingnya in English? Gak ada alasan khusus, lagi pingin aja... hehehe.

    About toilet seat

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingI heard or read somewhere about how a toilet seat can cause problem between married couple. Many consider that this is such a common problem that when you gather a group of wives they will likely have the same opinion upon this matter. And I'm sure that you also have heard about this, or even experienced it first hand.

Most women usually complain about how their spouses not putting the toilet seat down after using it. I'm not sure what they are complaining about. Actually i also experienced this problem in the first couple of months of my being a wife. But, I wasn't sure either why i complain about it. In the end i thought that maybe i'm just too lazy to put the toilet seat down myself before i use it. After all, i never put it back up after using it and my hubby never complains about it. So, why should i complain about him not putting the seat back down? Right?

    The dead watch

'Dry jokes' between me and my hubby...

Me: Honey, my watch's dead. I think it's the battery.
Honey: What? How come? It's only a year or so....
Me: Yeah, it is... i don't know why. Check your watch, is it still working?
    Honey: Mine's still working.
Me: Well, maybe in a short time your watch will be dead too... I think mine stops first because i set the time a few minutes earlier than yours.
    Honey: ....????!!!!

p.s: why do you keep saying the watch is dead? It cannot be dead, it's never alive!

    [no title]

Actually i wanted to make this blog to be written in english. But, geez, i find it soooo hard to write recipes in english. First of all, i'm not familiar with the terms used in cooking stuff. I have to read a lot of recipe in english to be able to do this. *sigh*

There is a project that has been put on hold... to create my own spices glossary, complete with their pictures. As i am indonesian, i only know a name of a spice in Indonesian. Sometimes i dont know what to call a certain spice in English. So when i go to the grocery store, i'm counting on the picture on the package. And from there i learn the spice's name in English. I can go to the wet market and just ask for the spice i need to the seller. There are lots of seller in the wet market who understand Malay. That's the case if the indonesian word for the spices is the same as the Malay word. But, if it's not... heehee... i will just take my time and scan the whole stall looking for the thing i want.
Well, the glossary i want to create is not only for spices, but also for fish names, and beef meat part.

Hopefully i can finish this project before my sister get married. So when she ask me about any of this thing, i will just refer her to this blog. *lazy me... :P *

    I was sick

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingFor the last three days I had a cold, and my head felt so heavy like a tons of stones had been placed on it. It started on the last saturday. I felt a bit of headache and had a running nose. At night, it got worse. I couldn't do anything and only sleep, and sleep. The next morning, I heard my husband washing the dishes that i left in the sink since the night before, and then he woke me up just to say that he was going to buy some bread at the minimart downstairs. We were out of bread for breakfast. About 10 minutes later he came back with a loaf of bread and a pack of instant cream of chicken soup for me. He prepare his own breakfast and cook the soup for me. How sweet... ^_^

The next day, Monday, I felt a little better. But the headache was still there. So i couldn't prepare my husbands lunch and deliver it to his office as usual. He had to have his lunch at the student cafetaria. And this has been going on for four days now.

But thank God, i'm feeling better now. Hopefully by tomorrow i can prepare his meals again, as usual.
